ARRIVAL IN BERLIN- Artist residency at TAKT

ARTIST RESIDENCY

April - June 2013

Arrived in Berlin on the 7th April, have been welcomed by Anje & Bernard at TAKT residency in Friedrichshain.  So far the excitement and energy of the spring group has kept me busy meeting artists and visiting galleries.  There are 15 artists for the duration of the 3 months which will all collaborate into a group exhibition in Tapir Gallery at the end of June.

The urban culture, unique cafes and bars, Saturday & Sunday markets, street art and galleries will keep me busy over the next 3 months.

GALLERY VISIT- Michael Reid Berlin

Michael Reid Berlin

Australian contemporary art gallery

Brand new gallery, defiantly worth a visit in Berlin's hip Mitte district. Michael Reid has expanded from Sydney, NSW to bring Australian contemporary artists to Berlin.

Say hello to Ina the gallery manager, well informed within the Berlin arts scene.  Currently on show are Catherine Nelsons digital works.  With a visual effects background she creates layered imaginary landscapes.  The viewer is left to question reality vs. illusion in her large scale prints.

Artist & Curator - ISABEL MANALO

We had our first meet & greet at TAKT residency today and WOW what a great range of artists from all over the world.  Such a range of mediums too...it's going to be such an inspirational 3 months and can't wait to exhibit with these artists at the end of June.

I wanted to elaberate on our visiting artist and curator Isabel Manalo who will be working with us over the next 3 months.  She will be conducting weekly art critiques and seminars for us to discuss our work.

Isabel is an artist, curator and teacher based in Berlin and has also kept residency in Washington BC where she has lived for 12 years.

She is the independant curator and founder, director & editor of THE STUDIO VISIT (TSV), an online art journal featuring artists in their studios.  A great website to see artists work in their studios, discussing their ideas and process.

35mm Diana mini- Slide film cross processed

DIANA MINI 35mm

I had great fun with this film.  The weather started to get better and the sun was out so I had to capture Spring on its way!

The beach and sky are perfect for this particular film and the cross processing has only enhanced the colours!  Its such a pity how the iphone and instagram have destroyed the uniqueness of photography.  The best feeling is picking up the film from the developers to see what the camera has captured.  People who visited by exhibition in Barcelona were shocked that these images had no post-processing.

40 Days in Barcelona - Exhibition Images

 EPHEMERAL EXHIBITION

Jiwar creation & Society, Barcelona, 2013
Saturday 6th April, 12-2pm

I was so lucky the sun made an apperance for my pop up exhibition in Barcelona.  A big thankyou for those that came along for a chat, coffee & wine!

It was great to see all the film snapshots pegged against this brick wall on the side of the garden.  You could follow the line of images which seemed to tell a story....or as one local said I captured all the things you don't notice any more when its your home city.  It takes an outsider or tourist to bring life into these elements.
